Gross looks good until you count everything
Sale price minus purchase price is the number most dealers know. It leaves out the transport, the auction fee, 60 days of interest, the share of the carsales bill and the salesperson’s commission.
Without those, a car that looked like $3,000 profit might have made $900, and you keep buying more of the wrong cars.
How it works
- 1
Costs land on the car
Purchase or consignor net, recon, transport, auction fees and expenses captured by photo are allocated to the car as they happen.
- 2
The clock adds holding cost
Holding cost and interest accrue daily, and ad spend and commission are shared out when the car sells.
- 3
Net profit, per car and in total
Finance and add-on income are added back for the true net, and it all syncs to Xero or MYOB with a tracking category per car.
True net profit on every car
Net profit per car is the sale price minus the purchase price or consignor net, recon, transport, auction fees, holding cost, interest, ad spend share and commission, plus finance and add-on income. It’s worked out the same way on every car.
- Per-car P&L
- Expense capture by photo, auto-allocated to a car
- Profit by source: bought vs consigned vs trade-in vs auction
GST right on owned and consigned cars
Each car is set to margin scheme or full GST, and the treatment is correct for consigned versus owned stock. Luxury car tax is flagged, and BAS-ready reports come out at the end of the quarter.
- Margin scheme vs full GST per car
- Luxury car tax flag
- GST second-hand goods records
- BAS-ready reports
Two-way Xero and MYOB sync
Invoices, bills and payments sync both ways, with a tracking category per car. Bank feed matching and the trust or holding ledger for consignor funds and deposits keep the books and the yard in step.
- Tracking categories per car
- Bank feed matching
- Trust and holding ledger for consignor funds and deposits
- Floor plan: drawdown per car, daily interest, curtailment alerts and payout on sale
